Fee For Service Proteomics: Whole Protein Analysis (non-digested, in solution): (A) Basic Protein Profiling using MALDI-ToF (2-100Kda) for QC or Biomarker Work (i.e. ready to go spot and run protein samples, $7/sample) (B) Advanced 1D Protein Profiling of Biological Fluids by MALDI-ToF (2-100K) (We purify by solid phase extraction, Run and Analyze; Urine, Serum, Plasma, Saliva, EPS, CSF, tears, etc., $16/ sample) (C) Histology Directed on-Tissue Protein Profiling by MALDI-MS (2-100K) (we cut tissue samples, H&E stain serial sections, and carry out profiling in pathologic regions of interest, costs are estimated by number of spots)
Peptide Analysis and Tandem MS/MS (i.e. tryptic digests): (D) Protein ID by (Protein Mass Fingerprinting) PMF with less than 10-15 ppm mass accuracy on average using MALDI-ToF (400-4000 Daltons) (i.e. purified predigested peptide samples such as 2D PAGE gel digests, $7/sample) (E) Protein ID by Tandem MS(MS)2 MALDI-ToF/Tof (400-4000 Daltons) (i.e. purified predigested samples such as 2D PAGE gel digests, $45/gel piece) (F) Protein ID or Peptidomic Studies by Tandem LC MS(MS)2 1D (RP)-LC-ESI MS/MS with Finnigan LTQ XL (350-2000m/z) (simple or complex samples, $85/ sample)
Collaborative Services Only: Advanced 2D Protein Profiling of Biological Fluids by MALDI-ToF (We purify by 1D, Run and Analyze; Urine, Serum, Plasma, Saliva, EPS, CSF, tears, etc.) Protein PTM Analysis using CID/ ETD by 1D-LC-ESI MS/MS with the AB 4000 Qtrap or the Finnigan LTQ XL (simple or complex samples) Quantitative Proteomics by LC-MALDI-ToF/Tof or 1D/ 2D (i.e. MuDPIT) LC-LTQ XL (i.e. AQUA, ITRAQ or SILAC) Tissue Imaging Mass Spectrometry by MALDI-ToF (spray coated, robotic spotting) Top-Down Directed Protein Identification (LC-MALDI-ToF/ 1D Gel/MALDI-ToF/ToF)
Special Notes to Keep in Mind: Prices include the running of standards & blanks, spectral preprocessing for database searching, and reporting, but do not include sample preparation, or additional interpretation/ analysis of data beyond the standard matching algorithms for protein ID (each adding $100/ hr to any service, average price of in-gel digests or in-solution digests is ~ $7/ sample without ziptip or captrap cleanup). Please allow additional time if we have to process your sample (i.e. in-gel digestion) prior to mass spectrometry analysis. Also, we can train personnel from other labs to work up their own samples at $100/ hour and this includes the reagents/ mass spec time making it affordable to keep costs down for the investigator that may have a great number of samples. For non-collaborations (the purely fee for service clients); pre consulting with the director is free for the first visit, and $200/ hour thereafter for interpretation of data or experimental design. All enquiries should be directed by email and meetings must be scheduled, as we have a very busy lab and cannot make time for walk-ins. We also guarantee a reasonable turn over from submission of your sample to our emailing you a report within 1-2 weeks. However, depending on our workload that week and pre-requested needs, this may be expedited upon specific approval by the director. Also, in order to allow us to serve the majority of researchers at UAB in a timely fashion, we must limit FFS clients to those services shown above. Ask for an estimate of time to completion at drop off, and let us know if there is a need for a rush order we may be able to accommodate, which can lead to an additional charge of 50% depending on order.
